McHenry, Illinois – A massive barn fire swept through Black Tie Stables at 5pm yesterday evening – just after the horses had been brought in for the night.  There were 31 horses boarded in the barn, most were able to be evacuated.  Battalion Chief Mike Majercik of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District says at least 7 horses are dead and three are missing.  Some reports are saying 16 horses are dead and 3 are missing.  Majercik says a cause hasn’t been determined but investigators are focusing on a nearby controlled burn that took place Wednesday. They’re also looking at a barbecue near the area where the fire started.  The stable was 90% show horses.  Thankfully someone was driving by and saw the black smoke, his daughters horse was boarded at the stable.  He rushed over and along with another person who was already there, they were able to free most of the horses before the barn burned down.  My heart goes out to those affected by this.
