Equestrian Allegedly Shot By Former Dressage Olympian

Michael Barisone, a top Grand Prix dressage trainer who was a reserve rider for the U.S. dressage Olympic team in 2008 has allegedly shot Lauren Kanarek at a farm in New Jersey. Lauren is a USEF/USDF Medalist who shot two times at close range in an attack that left her clinging for her life.

Sources have said the attack was precipitated by a bitter landowner-tenant dispute. Lauren was rushed to the hospital and was initially reported to be in grave condition. Some reports state that she stabilized after surgery while others say her condition is still up in the air.

Barisone was named 2009 Sportsman International Horseman of the Year and has gone on to train other Grand Prix level and Olympic level dressage riders as well.  On August 2nd Lauren Kanarek reportedly posted the following message on her Facebook page:
