Students Suspended For Riding Their Horses To School

Two seniors at Las Lunas High School in New Mexico were suspended after riding horses to school as part of the “No Vehicle To School Day” Senior Prank. Many students chose alternative methods of transportation including skateboards, bikes and four-wheelers.

A.J. Sauceda and Clayton Torres were suspended for riding their horses to school. They rode the horses on the school campus for about 10 minutes before taking the horses back home. When they returned to the school, officials were waiting for them. Sauceda and Torres were suspended.

The students were surprised by their punishment. They felt that worse senior pranks had been committed earlier that week and none of those students were suspended. Officials said that having horses on school campus was not safe. Both students missed their finals due to the suspension. They will however be allowed to make up their exams.

Yes I would have NO problem riding to school on a horse as a prank.I cant see where anyone was in danger- its a kids thing. Could have been something a lot more sinister and possibly harmful.

um, okay…….let’s talk rules. Like schools, equestrian’s and equine enthusiast study intensively to be made aware of rules holding safety to the highest priority. We equestrians excersize safety with horses every time we are involved, sporting, or caring for them. Equestrians follow rules to keep us and others and their horses safe every moment to avoid danger. I see knowledge youth around curious youth. I also see experienced horses with these same aged youth. So, how good is this school at following their own rules??

Since when are riding horses to school reason for suspension? I know skateboards are banned in school, but I didn’t hear any skateboarders being suspended.

Sorry, School Administration, but that is one of the dumbest excuses to suspend students that I’ve ever heard. Our Senior prank was flooding the first floor of the school with dead alewife fish! The year before it was giant snails. Just be glad it wasn’t the principal’s car disassembled, and reassembled on the roof of the school!

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!!! You talk about safety. Hmm riding quads is just the same as riding horses why did they not get suspended!! I would totally challenge the administrators/school board!
