You’ll Never Guess What Was Hiding Inside The Lump On This Horses Leg

CK Mobile Equine services recently had an interesting case. A horse came in with a pliable lump on the inside of his right front leg. The owners had noticed a small superficial wound on the inside of the leg one day. It wasn’t sore so they cleaned it and it healed up nicely. Upon examination, the horse wasn’t lame or tender on palpation. They decided to do x-rays that showed a foreign body….

They sedated the horse and decided to open up the wound. Everyone was shocked to find HUNDREDS of thriving BOT EGGS! They flushed the wound, wrapped it and it hasn’t appeared since. Next time my horse has a wound that needs cleaning, I know I’ll be thinking about this situation and be extra mindful.
