How Western Pleasure Horses Are Judged And What Exhibitors Should Know

There is a lot of confusion surrounding western pleasure lately. Whether you are currently showing western pleasure or you’re someone who’s interested in it, this is a great video. Dave Dellin, Director of Horse Show Judges for the American Paint Horse Association talks about the Western Pleasure Horse and how they are evaluated and should be shown.

He emphasizes that correctness of movement is the MOST important thing that judges are looking for! Those are words we like to hear 🙂

Judges for APHA and AQHA have been saying same thing for years yet if you go to a rated show the same old trot behind lope in front 4 beat peanut rollers are winning. The only change I’ve seen is that headsets are a little more level and not behind vertical anymore.
